The Value of Automation for Highly Motivated Teleworkers

In practice, "teleworking" is a work arrangement that allows an employee to perform work, during any part of regular, paid hours, at an approved alternative worksite. Typically, employees use electronic media to interact with others inside and outside the organization.  Although the concept of teleworking seems broad, it excludes electronic outsourcing, which is a form of independent contracting.  Also, they are not, strictly speaking, members of the contracting organization.  This is because they are part of the provided work arrangement agreed upon by the employer and the worker.  These activities may include fieldwork, sales trips, seminars, and conventions, etc.

Teleworking During the Pandemic

Since the pandemic, teleworking may be in a part-time work arrangement or that of full time.  In a part-time teleworking arrangement, the individual performs his teleworking activities alongside some activities done in his central workplace.  On the other hand, a full-time teleworking job requires the individual to work exclusively away from his central workplace.  This alternate work arrangement may bring several benefits to the individual worker. This may also be beneficial to his organization although there is no single theory of its impact.  To the employee, the teleworking arrangement enables him to enjoy more freedom to manage his own time. Thus, teleworking may reduce time or schedule conflict.  Further, it can also provide him the means to choose the most efficient workplace. Some may work in co-working spaces which is most accessible and conducive to him.

Sometimes, especially when the individual is less of an outgoing nature, the arrangement may be beneficial to him. This is because it reduces his need to interact with his co-workers.  It may also lessen conflicts that may arise due to work social interactions in the workplace.  Telecommuters evidently enjoy flexibility, freedom, and discretion because they do not have to work face-to-face with their supervisors.  This set-up may give them more control over their work hours. Not only that, they can choose work ambiance and other personal preferences that affect the individuals' output and efficiency.

Teleworking and Job Satisfaction

Teleworking may thus heighten the job satisfaction of the person as “freedom” itself serves as an incentive to him.  In terms of health, the arrangement may be advantageous to the worker as he can be relieved of stress. It could also give him time to participate in recreational or sports activities or stress-reducing social interactions.  Furthermore, teleworkers may reduce the costs attributed to transportation, office uniforms, and other requirements in the typical office.

However, the arrangement may have several negative consequences to the teleworkers and to the organization.  For instance, some workers feel more at ease and are more efficient when performing in groups.  Because teleworking provides more autonomy to the worker, it separates him from the typical workplace scenario.  There are also certain instances when workers are more efficient when supervised directly by their supervisors. Some workers may become more efficient under this situation due to pressures and competition.  When an individual may be forced to exert more effort when is working face-to-face with his co-employees. Hence, teleworking reduces the feasibility of monitoring employee behavior as a control mechanism.

Communication, Teleworking and Automation

As the number of teleworking increases, automation technologies related to communication for work are necessary. Some company's telecommuting programs transformed paper-based procedures and heavy reliance on voice and in-person communications into automated procedures and full-scale connectivity. Automation technologies help with teleworker accessibility, massive ways of communicating with other people, and social reprieve. This accessibility of people to the tools has produced a world that is highly diverse and yet highly connected. The company achieved greater accountability and control through automation. Thereby it alleviated one of management’s main concerns —how teleworkers allocate their time outside of a traditional office setting. Hence, information sending to a huge group of people empowers businesses to send messages or information at an extraordinary rate. Social relief allows people who are awkward in communicating face-to-face to interact with others electronically.

Surely, using automation in teleworking could improve the working speed, lessen conflict and increase inter-dependability of workers’ competitiveness. For example, the company may fund on updating computers, putting internet connection to improve communication. Also, they can manage the administrative, operational, marketing, and advertisement function of the organization. Also, they can adopt video or audio conferencing very easily. Thus, gradual maximization of resources increases customers’ recognition of the company. At the same time, automation helps them streamline the development of the quality of products and services they provide. This is certainly cost-effective and brings a positive impact to the reconstruction of the organization. In essence, the company reaches a balance between cost and profit. Cost-plus high-quality products and services, employees’ competitiveness, and professionalism equal to great sales and an increase in profit.

The Choice Is Yours

Much of the value that customers place on the product or service is identified through results and surveys. This evaluation is usually conducted through the utilization of data mining software products available in the market today. Through employing algorithms, perceived customer value can be generated. And from this information, provide an insight on the behavior of the customer towards the product or service.

With the continuous advancement in technology, data mining and campaign management integration are now made easier through automation. This facilitates objectively made marketing decisions which are cost-effective. And it is more likely to be successful than one based on pure instincts alone.
